A bit about me....
I am Karen Pimlott married to William, a husband & wife team, along with our 4 sons who since 2004 have run a market garden business, growing our home grown seasonal produce that we sell at farmers markets across the North West.
Pimlotts Poultry was ‘hatched in 2004 when we started to show & take our poultry seriously, & with our love of poultry growing by the day, so has our collection. Pimlotts poultry is not a business as some people think, but a hobby gone mad!! People new to the fancy will soon find that chicken keeping is VERY addictive.
Shows. The last few years have been very successful showing wise, with us having wins at both the major shows, including best bantam Faverolle twice at the National, both home bred birds. In February 2007 we had best of breed & champion Croad Langshan at the National in Feb 2007 with a home bred black pullet.
In 2007 we appeared on television along side TV Chef Simon Rimmer on an episode of ITV’s‘Grubs Up’ where Simon cooked a pudding using our eggs, he also bathed a chicken, which he thought was hilarious!!!I was also invited along to Radio Lancashire to do a phone in with Ted Robbins on his morning show which was lots of fun!
The start of 2008 has been quite exciting for me, I gained my SF heavy judging certificate for the Poultry Club of GB ,so I am now qualified to judge at the required level under poultry club rules, & I already have a number of judging appointments for this year.
I have also taken the position of deputy editor at The Poultry Journal a subscription only paper, written by the fancier for the fancier & is truly a great read. I am very excited about taking up this post. Click on the link below to subscribe & find out more about PJ
At the moment the majority of our birds are back to basics with most being back in the breeding pens, hopefully breeding our winners for later in the year. We sometimes (if we have any surplus after fulfilling our orders) have some of our exhibition stock & hatching eggs available for sale later on in the year. Laying hens at POL are available from us all year round Omlet (Eglu’s) recommend us as one of their breeders, all our layers are fully vaccinated.
Bantam Society. William & I are also committee members of our local bantam society ‘Southport & Ormskirk’, who run many events throughout the course of the year click on ‘bantam society’ to find out more.
Chicken Keeping Courses. A new idea I have for 2008 is to run a ‘Novice chicken keepers course’, which hopefully once I find a suitable venue I will hold on a few dates through the summer.If you would be interested in attending such a course please e-mail me & I will get back to you with the details & dates. I am having trouble finding a suitable venue to hold these courses thank you EVERYONE wo has shown interest, I am continuing on the hunt for a venue & hope get these courses up & running for 2009, please carry on e-mailing with you interest etc & I will e-mail you back with any developments as soon as.
