Southport was originally a 'bantam' only society, hence the name, run from Hawkshead Street in Southport in 1955, where pigeons where shown alongside the bantams. After a number of years at Hawkshead Street, the society moved to a disused tea room behind a public house in Rufford, before moving to its present day home at Wigggins Lane. The hut that is Southport & Ormskirk was purchased from Kirkham in 1984 it was brought flat packed on the back of a lorry & re assembled to the bantam hut we all know & love today.
The late Tom Blundell snr founded the society in 1955 & up to his death late last year still had an active roll in the society, only stepping down as chair in 2006, handing over the reins to the present chair Harry Caunce.
S & O has grown in popularity & has now sadly out grown the old hut, committee & society members alike are now fund raising to raise money for the new club building, alongside the help of grants & donations from members. Not only are bantam 's shown at todays society, but large fowl & waterfowl are also shown. Unfortunately the pigeons are no longer allowed.
Tom Blundell Snr receiving recognition from the PCGB for acheivement of service to the fancy.
